Like many people, Ryan began inside, working long days and feeling the pull of somewhere else. A camera became the reason to get outside. It then became the way he learned to see.

More than a decade later, that pursuit has taken him across dramatic landscapes, dark skies and winter rivers. What began as a chase for beautiful light became a career built around making images, teaching workshops and sharing the decisions that turn a fleeting scene into a photograph with a story.

St. Louis is home. The Mississippi is the local classroom. Ryan’s knowledge of its winter eagle activity comes from patient repetition: watching freeze-thaw cycles, learning dependable perches, reading the wind and respecting the distance every bird needs.
