Stay where the photograph develops
A vehicle-based camp can reduce the distance between sleep and the first composition of the morning. It also makes it easier to wait through changing weather rather than abandoning a location because lodging is hours away.
Build the setup around reliability
The most useful gear supports sleep, water, power and safe recovery. Photography equipment still needs a protected place that can be reached without unpacking the entire vehicle. Simplicity leaves more energy for the work.
Protect the places that provide access
Follow land rules, stay on durable routes and pack out everything you bring. Remote access is valuable only when photographers help keep it open and leave the location in better condition for the next visitor.
Technique becomes useful when it responds to the scene. The goal is a decision process you can carry into changing conditions.
