Build distinct layers
Depth begins with separation between foreground, middle distance and background. Change position until shapes overlap less and each layer has a clear role in the composition.
Use light and atmosphere to create distance
Side light reveals texture while haze softens distant contrast. Look for those differences instead of applying the same contrast everywhere. A gradual change from crisp foreground detail to quieter background detail helps the eye read space.
Guide the eye with restraint
Leading lines help only when they lead somewhere meaningful. Simplify competing highlights, darken distractions gently and give the main subject the clearest local contrast. The edit should reinforce the composition that was already present in the field.
Technique becomes useful when it responds to the scene. The goal is a decision process you can carry into changing conditions.
