There is no single workshop spot that works every day.
Ryan watches current Eagle activity, open water, wind and light across multiple locations. The plan can change before sunrise or halfway through the day when another stretch of river is producing a better opportunity.
Ryan leads between shooting locations and participants follow in their own vehicle. Exact Eagle locations stay private to protect the birds and the places that make this workshop possible.

You and Ryan meet online to edit your workshop photographs using Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz tools as appropriate. The session is recorded so you can revisit the complete workflow later.

We will work through the full process of Bald Eagle photography, from reading wind, open water, light and behavior to choosing your position before the action begins.
Then we will work on the camera side of the equation: autofocus, exposure, tracking and timing so you are ready when an Eagle flies, fishes or gives you another opportunity.

That gives us a new problem to solve.
On Day 2, we take what you learned and what your photographs showed us on Day 1, then make adjustments. We can refine your positioning, autofocus setup, exposure decisions and timing while giving you another full day of repetition with flight, fishing and action.
Instead of only understanding the ideas, you get another day to recognize the conditions, make the decisions yourself and start turning the process into instinct.

Workshop meeting areas are generally about one hour from St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Participants need their own vehicle and follow Ryan between locations. Exact meeting directions and lodging guidance are shared privately after booking.
Prepared for winter
Bring your camera, charged batteries, memory cards and the longest telephoto lens you own. A 400 to 600mm reach is useful. Dress for cold, wind, mud and snow. Ryan sends a complete preparation guide before the workshop.

The Eagles may be present while the photographs available on two days look completely different.
Ryan cannot control a wild bird. He can scout, read the conditions, move when necessary and prepare you to make the most of the opportunities that happen. That is the value of local knowledge plus private instruction.
Meet Ryan
A local photographer who teaches the whole decision.
Ryan Oswald is a St. Louis photographer and educator who has spent years watching winter Eagles along the region’s rivers. He knows that locating the birds is only the first part of making a strong image. The rest comes from understanding wind, behavior, light, camera setup and timing. During a private workshop, Ryan explains those decisions as they happen. He gives you room to photograph then steps in with specific feedback you can use on the next pass. After the field day, the instruction continues online as you work through your own files from selection to final edit. The goal is not a borrowed settings recipe. It is a system you can take into every future wildlife encounter.

Know what to expect before you reserve.
01How does booking work?+
Choose one open day or two consecutive open days from the live calendar. Your selection is held immediately for 24 hours while you complete secure checkout.
02Why do you recommend two days?+
Weather, wind, river conditions and recent feeding can change Eagle behavior from one day to the next. Two days provide another set of conditions plus a chance to apply the lessons from Day 1 during Day 2.
03Is wildlife or fishing behavior guaranteed?+
No ethical wildlife workshop can promise a sighting or specific behavior. Ryan uses current conditions, recent activity and years of local field experience to choose the best available opportunity. Eagles remain wild and are never staged or baited.
04Do I need advanced camera skills?+
No. All experience levels are welcome. Because the workshop is private, the day can begin with camera setup or move directly into advanced autofocus, exposure and behavior.
05What camera gear should I bring?+
Bring a camera with continuous autofocus and the longest telephoto lens you own. A 400 to 600mm reach is useful. Ryan can also help you get the most from a shorter lens.
06How much walking is involved?+
Very little. Most locations require minimal walking on winter surfaces. Cold, wind, mud, snow and uneven ground are possible, so share any mobility concerns before booking.
07Are lodging and transportation included?+
No. Flights, a rental car, lodging, meals and travel insurance are separate. Participants drive their own vehicle and follow Ryan between locations. Exact directions are provided privately after booking.
08What if severe weather makes the day unsafe?+
Ryan adapts locations and timing to the conditions. Safety comes first. If severe weather makes the day unsafe, Ryan will coordinate the best available alternative.
09What is the cancellation policy?+
Deposits reserve a private date. If you cancel 60 days or more before the workshop, the deposit may be transferred to another available workshop. Cancellations within 60 days are not refundable or transferable unless otherwise agreed in writing.
10What does the editing session include?+
After the field day, you and Ryan meet online to edit your images using Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz tools as appropriate. The session is recorded so you can revisit the workflow.
